Hey, you!

I created this blog to challenge myself to make time for things that light my fire. You'll mostly find posts about home renovation and design, cooking, DIY projects and a sprinkle of craft beer and cat photos. Hope you have a nice stay!

DIY Wall Art Part I

DIY Wall Art Part I

I'm currently entering the decorating phase of my home renovation. It's very hard to be mindful about purchases and wait to curate a collection of things you love when it would be so easy to go to Target and buy a generic version of everything. This is especially true with wall art. These bare walls are driving me bonkers, so I've decided to try my hand at some DIY wall art to hold us over until we get a collection of our own.

The amount of paint samples I have compiled over the past few years is astonishing. Down right embarrassing.  Whoever believes there are only 50 shades of grey has never tried to paint an entire house. I decided to pull a few of them out to try my hand at some basic painting. I've really been loving abstract and ikat print, so those were my inspiration.

Valspar Boisterous Blue; Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray; and a mystery shade of gray chalk paint that's label was torn off.

Okay. Let's be honest. This is not what I had set out to paint. I'm sure you've seen this print from Target. I tried to paint the circles but they were way too thick. Then I tried to water down the Boisterous Blue but that didn't work either. I eventually decided on layers of gentle brush strokes. I think it turned out alright!

With this one I started out planning on only doing the blue dots, but it looked too plain. I ended up coming in with a couple shades of gray and am really happy with how it turned out!

I'm not sure if this is where they will stay, but they sure do look cozy next to the window seat in my dining room!   (Pillows from Ballard Designs; Blanket from West Elm)
