Hey, you!

I created this blog to challenge myself to make time for things that light my fire. You'll mostly find posts about home renovation and design, cooking, DIY projects and a sprinkle of craft beer and cat photos. Hope you have a nice stay!

I'm Dreaming of a Mid-Renovation Christmas

I'm Dreaming of a Mid-Renovation Christmas

The past few Christmases I've been so deep in renovations that I haven't even bothered to decorate. Who needs fake snow and glitter when there are clumps of sawdust flying around? The big projects are now complete (mostly referring to the ceilings and floors) so I was determined to bring some Christmas cheer into the house this year! There are still lots of little projects to do - you'll see the trim I need to finish painting, the fireplace hearth that needs to be re-tiled, and the lack of curtains in these photos - but I'm celebrating the progress and am excited to put up Christmas decorations for the first time in this house. Below you'll find some photos and tips on how I did it on a budget!

These are my Pottery Barn plaid stockings. I have been flipping through the catalog drooling over them every year and I am so excited to finally have them hanging on the mantle. The greenery on top of the fireplace are just from the flower bins at Kroger. They're only $4 for a bunch! Here I used a reclaimed wood box to tuck the ends of the greenery under. Have you seen how expensive stocking holders are?! I saved some cash by only buying two and threading the stockings onto a tension rod.

I found two gold candlesticks at Goodwill for 50 cents each. Here I placed some fake holiday berries from the Dollar Tree in them with a sprig of greenery.

Am I the only one who was underwhelmed by the entire Hearth and Hand release? Maybe I just had my expectations too high. This candle is the only thing I found that I couldn't live without. It smells heavenly!

Gingerbread houses are such a fun way to spend time with friends and family. They rarely end up looking as beautiful as you imagine in your head, but they give off a cozy feeling and smell so wonderful!

Here I draped one of my blanket scarfs over the back of this chair and used an old sweater to make a throw pillow.

I haven't found a place for this yet, but I found this card holder at a thrift store for $1!

This letterboard is probably my favorite purchase of 2017. It's so easy to switch up the content based on mood, party theme, holiday, anything!
